The city of Melbourne claims to have the 3rd biggest tram network across the globe. There are two different types of trams in Melbourne including Cable trams and Electric trams.
In the year 1906, the electric Melbourne Trams were introduced for the first time.
The NMETL or the North Melbourne Electric Tramway and Lighting Company, a British organization took initiative and sold electricity to its clients along the route. In the later period, the other three electric tram systems, namely Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo were introduced with the same purpose.
One of the oldest Municipal Tramways Trusts of Melbourne was the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust or in short PMTT. It started its operation with open combination cars California. Some other Tramways Trust, Melbourne are Hawthorn Tramways Trust, Melbourne, Brunswick and Coburg Tramways Trust, Fitzroy, Northcote and Preston Tramways Trust and so on.
