Telstra is a private media and telecommunications company in Australia, which has its headquarters in Melbourne. It provides landline and cellular phone services, satellite connectivity, cable channel access, broadband and business data services. The Telstra was formerly a government owned company and was privatized in steps. In 2006, the company became fully privatized. The first public offering for the purpose of privatization was made in 1997 and again 1999.
Telstra Internet Services Telstra offers the broadband connectivity, dial up connection and ADSL services under the name of Telstra BigPond. The Telstra controls the wholesale market of the ASDL services for the Internet service providers. Also its broadband services are retail marketed by BigPond through ASDL, fibre, HFC cable and satellite. The dial up service, which is also retail marketed by BigPond is exclusively a prepaid service.
