Shrine of Remembrance Melbourne

The Shrine of Remembrance is the chief Landmark of Melbourne and a major tourist destination in Victoria. This shrine looks back to honor those
Australians who had participated in the First World War. The Shrine was built sometime between 1928 and 1934. There were more than 114,000 men and women, among whom 89,100 served overseas. Around 19,000 people of them lost their lives or went missing.

The Shrine of Remembrance stands on the St. Kilda Road in Melbourne. This is the largest War memorial in Australia. This is the site of the observation of the ANZAC Day and the Remembrance Day. The ANZAC Day is observed both in Australia as well as New Zealand on the 25th of April each year. The Remembrance Day is observed on 11th November.

To Watch Out in Shrine of Remembrance

The shrine has been designed in such a way that the rays of sunlight touch the sacred Stone of Remembrance on 11th of November just when the clock strikes 11 in the morning. The word 'LOVE' is written on the stone. The special design has been implemented due to the joint effort of astronomers, a surveyor and a mathematician. This phenomenon is expected to continue for at least the next five hundred years.
