Old Melbourne Goal

Old Melbourne Goal is a prison, which has now become a popular tourist attraction in Melbourne. This prison is famous because of the 135 executions
that had taken place here. Ned Kelly is one of the most infamous convicts in the prison. Many other bushrangers had been jailed here. The prison was founded in the middle of the 19th century, sometime between 1854. The goal or prison was abandoned in 1929. During the Second World War, the United States of America used this prison for imprisoning some of the war convicts.

Shows in Old Melbourne Goal
Presently, the tourists who visit the Old Melbourne Goal get to see a number of shows. Though no guides are provided, it is easy to figure out from the writings and displays the history associated with this prison. The show called the 'Art of Hanging' is blood curdling. Also a special performance is held inside the prison, which is closely related to the actual happenings inside the prison walls. These special shows are held on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Children below the age of 12 are advised not to enter these shows because those can be just too scary for little children.

Visitors are welcome to visit the Old Melbourne Goal anytime between 9:30 in the morning till 5 in the evening. The goal remains closed for public viewing on Christmas and Good Friday.
