National Gallery of Victoria Melbourne

National gallery of Victoria Melbourne is the oldest and largest among all public art galleries of Australia. This museum was founded in 1861 and
is located on the St Khilda. The Victorian Arts center is located adjoining to the venue of National art gallery of Melbourne. This gallery has become so famous because of the huge collection of the artwork from different European artists. The foundation of the gallery owes its wealthy collection of artwork to the period of gold rush in Victoria. Alfred Felton funded the buying of many of the expensive works of art by the museum authorities.

The art collection at National gallery of Victoria Melbourne includes some rare paintings by Picasso, Monet, Turner, Rembrandt and Van Dyk. Also, several of the works by Australian artists are on display. Significant Australian artists, whose work has been put up on display, include Arthur Boyd, Sidney Nolan and Albert Tucker.

Another interesting display of this museum is the artwork by the aboriginal artists. The intriguing patterns of the tribal art have interested art lovers from all over the world. Every year, the National gallery of Victoria attracts millions of tourists.

It is because of the advantage of the large number of tourists, that some of the museum has undergone some significant renovations and additions. Eateries have been made and the transportation available to the museum is also looked after. A study center along with teaching amenities allows interested students to learn more of the art, which has been put up on display. For the beautification of the museum premises, a fountain has also been constructed.
