Walter Hall, an English man, in the middle of 19th century, visited Australia. After his death, Eliza, his widow was suggested to open a trust by Richard Casey. Later, Harry Allen and Richard Casey established a center for medical research.
The research institute was set up with funds from the trust, after Eliza has died. Dr. Sydney Patterson became the full time director of the institute for the first time.
Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research has a noteworthy place for itself among the numerous Melbourne health care organizations. WEHI has been set up in Parkville. The research works, carried on by this medical research institute, cover the following fields:
