Melbourne by Bus Bus services in Melbourne are used to complement its tram and train services. The buses run by V-line, Firefly, Premier, and Greyhound are primarily long distance buses connecting Melbourne to other Australian cities like Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney. Within the city Skybus and Sunbus operate express bus services connecting Melbourne city to the airport.
A universal ticket is used in suburban trains, trams and buses. 2-hourly, weekly and monthly tickets called Metcards are to be purchased and validated before being used. Except for tickets bought from tram cars, the other ones are to be validated by putting them inside a separate machine. Melbourne is divided into two transportation zones: Zone 1, and Zone 2.
