Geography Melbourne

Melbourne Geography deals with the exact location and the topographical features of the Australian city. It also gives information

regarding the climactic condition of Melbourne. Melbourne is situated along the coast of River Yarra. It is said that originally the city was established to the north of the Yarra River. This Australian city is situated approximately 390 feet above the sea level. The Great Dividing Mountain Range lies to the east of this city and runs along the southeastern Australian coast.

It is believed that in the Tertiary era basalt used to flow in the western part of the city. On the other hand, during the Silurian and Devonian era, a huge amount of sandstones, conglomerates and shales were accumulated and this led to the formation of the eastern part of the city. The eastern part of the city is much more suitable for agricultural purposes.

While talking about the Melbourne Geography, the climate of the city also deserves mention. Melbourne's basically experiences a temperamental climactic condition. Mainly the eastward low pressure zone affects the weather of the city. In the winter seasons due to the low pressure the city faces cold weather and incessant rainfall.
