The State Government of Victoria established the Deakin University, Melbourne in the year 1974 with the aim of establishing a regional university. It began operations at the Geelong Campus, which belonged to the State College of Victoria. The different Deakin University campuses are spread across Melbourne, Geelong and Warrnambool.
