Cook's Cottage Melbourne

Cook's Cottage is located in the Fitzroy Gardens in Melbourne. This is the reconstructed version of the cottage of captain James Cook's
parents. James Cook (Sr) and his wife Grace Cook owned the original house in Yorkshire England. The house was later sold to Sir Russell Grimwade in 1933. He had come up with the unique plan of shifting the entire Cook House to Victoria. As per the orders, the house was dismantled and reconstructed in the exact way with the same bricks in the present location. The shift is supposedly a gift to the white population in Australia who had come from England.

The Cook's Cottage in Melbourne is done up in such a way that it reflects the ambiance of the times of the Captain Cook. The furniture and other accessories of the house mostly do not belong to the original owners. However, they have successfully recreated that 19th century ambiance. The building is open for public viewing.

Even the Fitzroy Garden and the adjoining Treasury Garden are rented out for holding small parties. People are often seen to gather here for a cup of coffee and evening meet ups. The green surroundings of the elm trees attract a variety of birds and add to the scenic appeal.
