The location of National Carillon is on the Aspen Island in Lake Burley Griffin. Almost 45-minutes of religious recitals including hymns to contemporary music, are played on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 12:30. The tourists can enter this place only through a tour package, others also enjoy the musical performances sitting outside. There are 53 bells ranging from 7 kg to 6 metric tons in the Carillon Tower. This tower is managed and maintained by the National Capital Authority on behalf of the Commonwealth of Australia.
Queen Elizabeth II officially inaugurated the National Carillon on 26 April 1970. This tower is almost 50 meter tall, whose architecture was the Western Australian architects Cameron, Chisholm & Nicol. The building was renovated in 2004 at the upper floors.
There is a small dining hall with private kitchen and other facilities, which are frequently hired for private functions. This tower looks superb at night with flood lights spotting its elegance. The architecture of Carillon Tower is triangular with three massive triangular supports. There are both lifts and elevators in the building.
The melodious chantings and ringing bells are well audible throughout the city of Canberra. The performances and religious programmes in the National Carillon charms the visitors and this tower happens to be one of the prime attractions of the city.
