Mt. Taylor in Canberra is formed of acid volcanic rocks. The formations of these rocks can be traced back to the Silurian Age, some 420 million years ago. Ignimbrite is rock formed on the western side of the mountain formed by massive volcanic explosion. The collection of rocks of Mount Taylor is named as Laidlaw volcanics.
