This lake contains six islands. The Aspen Island in Lake Burley Griffin is by far the largest island located in the Central Basin. Springband and Spinnaker are the smaller islands on the West Basin. The Scrivener Dam, named after Charles Robert Scrivener was used to construct this magnificent lake.
This beautiful artificial lake is a major tourist attraction in the capital of Canberra. The beautiful path which surrounds the lake can be conveniently used by the walkers, cyclists and joggers. The Kings Bridge and the Commonwealth Bridge spans the lake. Different kind of boats, cycles and pedalos can be hired in the Acton Park Ferry Terminal located to the north of the lake. Lake cruises start from the Acton Ferry Terminal. The Commonwealth Park is located in the Regatta Point of Lake Burley Griffin at Canberra.
The Captain James Cook Memorial was built in the memory of Captain Cook's first sighting of the eastern coast of Australia. The Captain Cook water jet in Lake Burley Griffin shoots 6 tons of water about 147 meters high into the air. It is a sight to regale. Another prominent tourist attraction of Lake Burley Griffin is the Blundell's Cottage. It is a interactive information center where tourists can get information about early farming in Canberra. Carillon is a 53 bell tower gifted by Britain to Canberra on it's 50th anniversary. This is placed in the Commonwealth Park.
