Canberra Baptist Church

The Canberra Baptist Church Canberra is one of the major churches of Australia. The Canberra Baptist Church is situated within the Territory
of Australian Capital. During the visit to Canberra of the Chairman of the Federal Home Mission Board and Vice-President of the Baptist Union of Australia on 17 October 1927, the Church was formally founded. The Rev. J.H.Goble, President General of the Baptist Union of Australia, laid the foundation stones of the church in the presence of a large number of people from various parts of Australia.

Like the other Baptist churches in Australia, the Canberra Baptist Church in Canberra assist the "younger" churches in Papua New Guinea, Asian and African countries. They are actively involved in the humanitarian, social and educational needs of the people.

Sixteen months after its formal establishment, the church building was completed and opened officially on 23 February 1929. On this historical day, there was great rejoicing among the Baptists. On 24 February 1929, the Rev.

Arthur J. Waldock D.D. was declared as the first minister during the Sunday services. The new building of Canberra Baptist Church and the adjoining Manse was built at a total cost of Pounds 12,239.12s.0d. Huge number of tourists come to visit the Canberra Baptist Church in Canberra.
