The Australian Government as a friendly gesture constructed the Ataturk Memorial Garden of Canberra. The Turkish Government agreed to Australian request for officially naming the beach where the Anzac forces landed on 25 April 1915 as "Anzac Cove". As reciprocal gestures, the Australian Government renamed a part of Lake Burley Griffin as Gallipoli Reach which is located at the foot of Anzac Parade and also the entrance to King George Sound situated at Albany in Western Australia was called Ataturk Entrance.
The Ataturk Memorial Garden at Canberra was inaugurated in 1985, seventy years after the momentous Anzac landing. this memorial was unveiled by both the Australian and the Turkish Governments to remember the Gallipoli Campaign.
The memorial has derived its name from Turkey's first president Mustafa Kemal Ataturk who was the leader the Ottoman regiment in defense against the Allies.
