TRADITIONS OF BUENOS AIRES

Important Festivals: There are many colorful and vibrant festivals celebrated in Buenos Aires. There are many festivals held in Buenos Aires to celebrate the tango dance form also. The Buenos Aires Tango Festival is held in late February and early March. In this festival, more than 150 tango dancers collect together at the venue to give more than 100 free shows and concerts. The Metropolitan Ballroom Tango Championship is also held in which tango dancers from all over Argentina compete. Another tango festival, which is celebrated with enthusiasm in Buenos Aires, is the International Tango Festival. It's held in the first week of December and several tango performances are held in this festival to entertain the viewers.

Customs and Traditions: A popular drink of Buenos Aires is "mate." People in Buenos Aires and all of Argentina often carry their mate pots with them all the time. This is a type of South American tea, which has a distinctive taste. It may take some time getting used to the taste of this drink. You can find this green tea in all of the supermarkets and grocery shops of Buenos Aires. The way to drink mate is to put it in the container, cover it with your hand and shake it a couple of times, pour very hot water in it and let it simmer for 30 seconds, then put your silver straw (called bombilla) in it and then drink it. Initially, you may describe the taste as "bitter" but it's easy to get addicted to it, like many other Argentineans have.
