Jalalabad


Jalalabad is considered to be the biggest city of eastern Afghanistan. Formerly known as Jalalkot, it is situated at the intersection point of the Kunar and Kabul rivers. It is the capital of the Nangarhar province and is situated at the entrances of Konar and Laghman valleys.

The city of Jalalabad was built by the third emperors of the Mughal dynasty. Mohd. Akbar was founder of the modern Jalalabad. The city has become a popular winter resort replete with various kinds of shrubs and cypress trees. The best time to visit Jalalabad is during the winter seasons. Situated at the western end of Khyber Pass, this has become one of the most popular
tourist attractions in Afghanistan. This place is mostly frequented by wealthy people of Afghanistan. The city has witnessed several fierce conflicts deteriorating the over all condition of Jalalabad.

Apart from other sight seeing places of the city, “Seraj –ul-Emorat palace deserves special mention. Built by Amir Habibullah, this palace is an important tourist spot of Jalalabad.

Jalalabad, a tourist site in Afganistan has a number of hotels offering excellent services to the visitors. The Springhar hotel is the best lodge in the city. It also has restaurant serving delicacies to the travelers.
