The Darul Aman Palace was built by King Amanullah Khan in 1920. The building is situated about ten miles outside the city center in Afghanistan. Built in the European style it is neoclassical building which was recommended as the seat for parliament in Afghanistan. The Darul Aman Palace stands for “abode of peace”.
The Darul Aman Palace was not used for many years and the religious conservatives of Afghanistan threw him from power and prohibited the implementation of the reforms. In the year 1969, the palace was damaged in fire. But later on, it was revived to house the Defense Ministry of Afghanistan and the Kabul Museum.

The Communist coup once again destructed the Darun Aman Palace leading to the end of the Saur Rebellion. The palace was destroyed again by the Mujaheedins in the early 1990’s. The Soviet invasion in the country has lead to the complete destruction of the building. Presently, it is used by NATO troops as a building for observation.
Later on, proposals were made to re-construct the Darun Aman Palace and make it a seat for parliament in Afghanistan. Donations from Afghans and foreigners formed the basis of their fund. Over time, the palace has become a favorite tourist spot.
