The history of Kabul can be traced back to as early as 3000 years. The city over the years had been destroyed many a times and reconstructed at different sites. The Arabs were the first to establish their rule in Kabul as early as the 7th century. The limelight on the city shifted with the rise of cities like Herat and Ghazni. emperor Nadir Shah. The Britishers were the next to arrive in Kabul. The conquest of Kabul and that of Afghanistan by the British armies was brought about through the three Anglo-Afghan wars. The first battle was fought in 1839. The Afghans finally gained their independence in 1919. The Soviet armies penetrated the Afghan borders in 1979 in an attempt to expand their territory and extend their influence in Asia. However, they had to withdraw their forces from Kabul in 1989 in the wake of increasing diplomatic pressure.
