Kabul University was established in the year 1932. Faculty of social sciences, National Center for Policy Research and Faculty of Education are some of the important departments of Kabul University.
Governed and administered by Prof. M Akbar Popal – chancellor - Kabul University is regarded as one of the best centers for higher education. From 1932 to 1979, Kabul University successfully provided best of the knowledge options to the students of Afghanistan.
However, due to Soviet invasion and the following wars, the University of Kabul went through a very stagnant phase. The research and development works of the University came to a standstill due to the continuous disturbances in the province of Kabul.

In the recent past Kabul university has reopened with new possibilities. The National Center for Policy Research is one of the finest examples of the excellent development of Kabul University. Formed in the year 2003 this National Center focuses on three core areas such as social sciences, economics and law and political sciences. Apart from specialized departments Kabul University has a number of general stream sections where huge number of students register their names in every academic session.
Funded and supported by many countries like Germany the University is steadily re-establishing its old repute in the zone of Kabul education. It can be expected that within the coming years Kabul University will emerge as a key element responsible for the growth of the knowledge resource of the place.
