Amir Habibullah Ghazi

Born in 1890, Amir Habibullah Ghazi was an Afghan king who ruled the country in 1929. Amir Habibullah Ghazi succeeded to the throne after Inayat Ullah. Ghazi belonged to the ethnic group called Tajik. He is well-known among the Pashtuns as “the son of the water bearer”. The Tajiks still recognize and respect him as the greatest Afghan ruler.

Amir Habibullah Ghazi of Afghanistan played an active role in the civil revolt that took place in 1928. He revolted with his troops in the north of Kabul. After a tumultuous political revolt, Ghazi was declared the king
of Afghanistan. As a ruler, King Amir Habibullah Ghazi was very efficient. He was a nationalist and was against extreme foreign influence. According to his instructions the western clothing was changed back to traditional attire. Also the flowers in the grounds of the presidential residence were replaced by vegetables.

But Amir Habibullah Ghazi could not remain king for long. When Mohammad Nadir Khan with the help of the English besieged Kabul,escaped from the city. Later he returned and confronted Nadir Khan. Amir Habibullah Ghazi was finally executed and that ended his short term rule in Kabul.
