Kabul Traditional Clothing


Kabul Traditional Clothing include clothes that are mainly made of cotton and wool. The cotton and wools are woven first and then dyed. Garments are made by either each family and group. Women mainly wear Chadri, which covers whole body from head to foot. This include a latticed slit made of cotton for the eyes. Blue, brown and black are used to make this latticed slit.

This same dress is used by women working on the land. They cover their faces in front of a stranger. Kabul Traditional Clothing for women also include long, full trousers and long-sleeved, loose tunic and use a draped headscarf. The tunics often reveal different design. Stripped materials are used for tunics. Hip-length, loose sleeveless jackets are used for warmth.

Though young girls can be bareheaded women must use a long scarf to cover their heads. The scarf is tied
round the head. The remaining portion hanging down the back is drawn across the face. If a woman wears a white scarf it signifies that she is married. Women often wear bright colored clothes such as red, blue, brown etc.

Traditional Clothing of Kabul for men are long-sleeved, thigh-length shirts. These shirts are belted at the waist. This gives a skirt effect to the lower part. They wear sleeveless waistcoat over this shirt and wear loose fitting trousers. 'Chupan' is another famous dress. It is long-sleeved and ankle-length. This long coat is usually made of wool. This dress is more popular in the mountain region. A similar type of coat exists and is made in stripes. Dark colors are used to make this coat.

However at present clothing of Kabul reveals the influence of western clothing and Bollywood clothing.
