Radio Kabul is a part of Kabul media and is the official radio station of Afghanistan. The first radio transmitter was installed in Kabul in 1920s. A 200 watt Russian transmitter was installed in Kabul Palace in 1925 by King Amanullah Khan but it was destroyed in 1929 by his competitors. Later in 1931 King Mohammad Nadir Shah replaced it along with upgradation done on 1940. This boosted the Radio Kabul and it was a kind of rebirth for this media.
Radio in Afghanistan is controlled by the ruling party and various kinds of programmes are broadcasted in definite intervals throughout the day. Programs are usually delivered in Pashto, Dari-Persian, French, Hindi and English language.
Radio Kabul has suffered severe losses during the civil war in 1990s and was damaged several times.

In 1996 Taliban gained power in Kabul and renamed the radio station to “Shariat Ghagh” (voice of nation). The Taliban changed the program broadcasting and banned the music in radio station and they started delivering news in tune of Taliban supporters. After the fall of Taliban power Radio Kabul regained its original identity and started broadcasting musical and political programs again.
UNESCO operated in all the states of the world for uplifting the area of communication and interest and Afghanistan also falls under this category. Hence an addition of educational radio and TV center in Kabul has been done by UNESCO to uplift educational service in every nook and corner of Afghanistan. Thus radio simply doesn't signifies entertainment as it is a valuable educational tools also.
