Great Wall of China


The Great Wall of China , considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is the massive structure that stretches from Shanghaiguan in the east to Jiayuguan in the west. It stretches for about 6,300 kilometers, covering eight provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in the mainland of China. Built during the period of 770-476BC, the Great Wall of China was strategically constructed as a defense line against nomadic incursions.

Wanli Changcheng as The Great Wall is called in Chinese, means the Ten Thousand Mile Wall. It is one of the greatest fortifications of the ancient China. The altitude is over 1000 meters above the sea level and stand as a commanding and strategic figure. Some of the notable areas of the Great Wall of China include Simatai Great Wall , Jinshanling Great Wall , Gubeikou Great Wall , Mutianyu Great Wall , Jiankou Great Wall or the Arrow Nock, Huanghuacheng Great Wall , Juyongguan Pass, Badaling Great Wall and Shui Guan or the Water Pass.

Main destination spots that are famous among the tourists include:

Badaling or the “North Pass” of Juyongguan pass, is made of stone and bricks from the hills, and covers 7.8 meters in height and 5 meters in width. Initially it was used as a protection of their land.

Ming Great Wall , the most striking sections of the Great Wall of China stretches 11 km in length and is 5 to 8 meters in height, and 6 meters across the bottom, tapering at the top with 5 meters width.

Wangjinglou is another remarkable spots and is the part of Jinshanling's 67 watchtowers that is positioned 980 meters above sea level.

Mutianyu Great Wall , the lofty, cragged mountains located South East of Jinshanling is approximately 2.25 kilometers and connects with Juyongguan Pass to the west and Gubeikou to the east.

Shanhaiguan Great Wall also called the “Museum of the Construction of the Great Wall ”, also coexists with the famous Meng Jiang-Nu Temple, built during the Song Dynasty.

A picturesque and a fantastic breath-taking scenic vista can be availed from the top of the Great Wall of China and its major sections. Other tours coupled with Beijing and Dunhuang cities visits are also available to the tourists at different seasons of the year.
