Chinese Army is the largest military branch of the Republic of China, Taiwan. The primary mission of the Chinese Army is the defense and counterattack against urban warfare and surprise attack. Republic of China Army currently includes 3 armies, 5 corps, and 27 divisions. In 2005, the Army's 35 brigades contained 25 infantry brigades, 3 mechanized infantry brigades, 5 armored brigades.
The Army of Republic of China's General Head Quarter is leaded by a 3-star general. It looks after the overall command of all the assets of ROC army. The general head quarter of Republic of China Army is subordinate to the General Staff of military force, the Minister of Defense of civilian force and the President of Republic of China. The Chinese Army was established as the National Revolutionary Army. It took part in the Northern Expedition, the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Civil War of China. Currently the primary mission of the Army covers the development of joint C2 systems, advanced helicopters attack, armored vehicles, MLRS, and field air defense systems. The Army is now in the process of conversion to a volunteer force.
With the course of time the Chinese Army is giving more stress on the usage of upgraded war equipments. Those equipments include AH-1W Cobra attack helicopters, M60A3 tanks, M109 "Paladin" howitzers. Currently it is planning to purchase 30 AH-64D II Apache, UH-60 Black Hawk. etc. Aside all these, the small arms used by the Chinese army include the following
