Embalse Yel Yeso

Embalse Yel Yeso Resrvoir is the major water reservoir for Santiago, located in the heart of the Andes Mountains at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level.

The gravel road goes towards the mountains from San Gabriel. This road runs along El Yeso River, which the reservoir pours into. The landscape surrounding this lake is basically comprised of snow capped hills. There is sparse vegetation in the foothills of the mountains. The only surface visible is rocks with small streams running down in between the cracks.

In the extreme west of the Embalse Yel Yeso Lake, one shall find a dam along which runs down a road to the nearest inhabitation. The water of this lake is cold with a exquisite blue color. Though a lake, yet this serves as a great destination for water sports like fishing, kayaking and windsurfing. The Andes ranges nearby are regularly visited by mountaineers. The nearby attractions of lake Embalse Yel Yeso are El Plomo Hot Springs and Cajon del Maipo, which give enough reason for tourists to come and spent at least a couple of days in the lap of Andean Mountains.

Though there is no beach and the terrain is rugged enough to have a pleasant walk, but the natural scenes along the slopes compel one to move around and discover the majesty of these pristine Chilean lakes. Embalse Yel Yeso is a popular attraction of Chile that takes the visitors to a quiet and soothing atmosphere amidst the Andes.
