Antofagasta, is a famous port city situated in the north of the Chilean Capital Santiago. The Salar de Atacama is also located in the Antofagasta region of Chile. It is an area of greater saline deposit in Chile. The depression area measures approximately 3,000 sq km. The rich salt deposits are left behind by the evaporation of the underground water by the strong dry winds. This region has rich mineral deposits like lithium reserves and great amounts of borax and potassium salts.
The El Tatio Geyser Field is located near Antofagasta. The geyser field located within the Andes mountains in northern Chile. The hot geyser field is located 4,200 meters above sea level, south east of Calama in Chile. It is one of the largest geyser field in the southern hemisphere. This is a hot bubbling field with numerous geysers.
