According to population and productivity, it's the second most vital province of Chile, just after the Metropolitan Region. Bio Bio is famous for the various production industries and the fishing and iron industries. The Bio Bio province is also a hub of prospering cultural and educational activities.
Originally, Bio Bio was a Spanish fort for the outpost in the War of Arauco. The early name of the city was Santa Maria de Los Angeles, when it was founded in the year 1739 by Manso de Velasco. Eventually people started referring it as villa in 1748. Then the city was renovated with new buildings, Spanish military campaigns and went through a vast colonization. The city of Bio Bio is situated just in the direction of north to the Biobio River, which ads to the scenic beauty of this place.
