The Chile kingdom was one of the several independent kingdoms of Spain. Each of the kingdoms was independently ruled by a Spanish King. The Chilean kingdom was a prized personal possession of the King of Castile. The kingdom was governed by the king, his council and the kingdom had its own set of laws.
The kingdom of Chile never attained the status of vice royalty but was assigned the status of captaincy general, and was dependent on the Peruvian Vice royalty. It is because of this that colonial Chile was referred to as a realm rather than a kingdom.
According to the political history of the kingdom of Chile, it was designated a governorship during the days of initial settlement in this area. As an answer to the severe protests by the local Amerindians an autonomous military based government was established. In the year 1554 Philip II of Spain was declared the 'King of Chile'. After he was declared the King, the Chile kingdom was merged back with the Spanish crown retaining its honorific title of 'Kingdom'.
Government Junta of the Kingdom of Chile was the first government Junta. It was an organ set up by Napoleon Bonaparte to rule Chile. The President of the Junta was Mateo de Toro y Zambrano, Vice President was Jose Martinez de Aldunate. The first government junta was followed by second, third, fourth, fifth and the sixth juntas respectively. Each of these government juntas had their respective Presidents, Vice Presidents and member secretaries.
The military governors of the Chile kingdom were Hendrick Brouwer, Elias Herckmans, Mariono Osorio and Antonio de Quintanilla.
