President of Chile




President of Chile is elected for a four year term .Earlier the term was for six years. The Chile government maintains a bicameral legislature of 38 senates and its members are elected for eight year term.
The members of Chamber of deputy are elected for four years. In Chile the President is given the status of the head of the government and the chief of the state. The judges of the Supreme Court are appointed by President of Chile. Chile's first president was O'Hingges.

Michelle Bachelet is the present President of Chile and she is also the first woman president in the country. Known more as a former political and prisoner and socialist doctor, Michelle Bachelet became the first woman President in Chile by defeating her opponent Sebastian Pinera by 53% votes.



Her victory has surprised many Chileans who could not digest the fact that a woman who had served prison could win the election, which Michelle Bachelet proved to be wrong. She herself knew that she would face strong opposition from Chile’s military establishment. There has been lot of controversies since she has taken seat. She has taken oath that she would serve her service years in total development work and has also declared that Chile would maintain liberal trading policies. A lot of personal questions have been asked by the media but her answers have always been smart and precise.

The people of Chile have great expectations from President of Chile.
