Law of Chile is central to the development of the formal Spanish colony. Chile took inspiration from the Roman law and French and Spanish traditions in designing judicial system of the government.
It also took example of the United States in setting up the various institutions of the government. The Supreme Court, appellate courts, claims court and the local courts are the ordinary courts of Chile .The special courts comprise of the labor courts, military courts and the juvenile courts. The local courts are the smallest administrative units of the country and in some cases specialize in civil or criminal cases.
The Chilean Government has always respected human rights of the citizens of the country. Earlier there were problems regarding the excessive use of force by some police officials but now things have changed for better. The conditions of the prisons have developed remarkably. The general condition of women and children has also improved. A new labor code has been implemented to improve the condition of the general labors. The government has tried its best to bring out cases of human rights and abuses during the military government period.
