Foreign Relations of Chile

Foreign relations of Chile have always gone through various ups and downs since its independence. Foreign relations for Chile have always been clear and precise. Chile has always participated in international affairs. Chile insistently challenged the supremacy of Peru's port of Callao for its forcible domination in the Pacific trade areas. The alliance between Peru and Bolivia was broken and the Peru-Bolivia Confederation led to an international war. The result of the war was that Peru became a prominent power. The second international war known as the Pacific war made Chile earn worldwide prestige. During the later 20th century Chile was not very active in international affairs but it maintained the largest army.

The diplomatic attitude of Chile was well accepted and liked by other countries and its influence could well be felt in the other parts of the world. Chile took active role in promoting bilateral institutions and it also took the responsibility of supporting the democratic and human rights of the people. Chile strongly believes in the ideologically based cooperative system and hence its influence can be felt in the international federations of Socialists, Communists and Christian Democrats.

Chile was influenced by the French culture and hence the legal and educational systems of Chile have decisive impact of French government. The Chilean army was influenced by the German culture as the soldiers were trained by the Prussians.

Foreign relations of Chile have always been healthy.
