Under the Constitution of the Republic of Chile, the President is the head of the political system of the country. The executive powers are vested to the President of the country. It gave enormous power to the President of Chile. But some powers like dissolving Lower chamber of the Congress and serving the country continuously for eight years with a possible reelection was amended or modified after 1990. Through universal suffrage the President of Chile is nominated in the country.
More 50 reforms were given an approval; it eradicated some of the areas of the Constitution, which were undemocratic. The existing non elected Senators (senators for life or institutional senators) were eliminated. Another reform includes the President's inability to sack or remove the Commander in Chief of Chilean Armed Forces.
