Universities in Chile

The universities in Chile can be divided broadly into undergraduate colleges and universities, career colleges, graduate colleges and universities and medical universities.

The University of Chile is one of the oldest and the most prestigious university. It is the largest university of Chile. There are 16 faculties under this university distributed in 13 campuses. The university was established in September 17, 1843. It has six faculties. They are Philosophy and Education Sciences, Legal and Social Sciences, Biology and Medical Sciences, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Agronomy and Veterinary and also Fine Arts.

The Universidad de las Americas, Chile is one of the distinguished universities in Chile. This university offers different courses in the field of science, technology and also arts. This university in Chile has distinguished professors and lectures as faculty members. The university aims in increasing the quality of students graduating from this university. Different certificate programs and international programs are offered by the university. Students from diverse geographic locations come to this university to pursue their masters and doctorate degree.



The University of Santiago in Chile, is one of the prominent university. The university has different faculties like the engineering faculty, business administration and economics, chemical and biology, medical sciences, the School of Architecture and also the Technology faculty. This university was founded in 1849. It is one of the oldest public universities in Chile.

Chilean traditional universities are also known as 'Universidades tradiciaonales'. All universities founded before 1980s fall under this category. There are seven traditional universities in Chile. They are Universidad Chile, Ponitifica Universidad Catolica de Chile, Universidad Austral de Chile, Universidad de Concepcion, Universidad Catolica del Norte, Universidad de Santiago de Chile and Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria.
