Like most other cities of Chad, Bongor has also a major historical significance. It is said that until the German-French Treaty in 1911, it had been a part of the German Cameroon. In 1904 as soon as the military station was established by Herbert Kund, a German colonial officer, the modern history of the city begun.
Since the colonial period, Bongor has been a major city of secondary education. The chief indigenous tribal group that is seen to reside over here is called Massa.
City of Bongor is also popular for having a well-stocked central market square, a post office and an airport. The governing associations for the Mayo-Kebbi Prefecture are also situated over here.
The major crops that are cultivated in Bongor- a City in Chad include rice and cotton. Monday is said to be the chief market day and in this day it attends a huge rush.
