USA at the winter Olympics
United States of America is one of the 12 countries of the world to have taken part in all
the Winter Olympic Games conducted till date. when it comes to Winter Games, USA has many credits attached to its legacy like the country stands at a proud 3rd position with a total of 216 medals (78 gold, 80 silver, 58 bronze) in the over all Winter Olympics medal tally. USA has also hosted the Winter Olympic Games four times i.e. the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah; Lake Placid, New York (1932 and 1980) and Squaw Valley, California (1960). By sending maximum number of participants in the last 13 Winter Games, USA has again set a new benchmark in the Winter Olympics history.
USA in 2006 Winter Olympics
Second in the total medal tally count in 2006 Winter Olympic Games, USA got 25 medals (9 gold, 9 silver, 7 bronze). Out of which 7 each came from Snowboarding & Speed Skating. For the 2006 games the team consisted of a total of 211 athletes. Chris Witty, a four time Olympian served as the flag bearer at the opening ceremony and Joey Cheek winner of 1 gold and 1 silver in 2006 games, was the flag bearer for the closing ceremony. The country in 2006 also won its first curling medal ever.

Bonnie Blair and Eric Heiden have won the maximum number gold medals in the Olympics. Winners of five gold medals both Blair and Heiden are famous names in the world of speed skating. By sweeping away the men's event in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, Heiden earned his 5 gold's whereas Blair won her five gold and one bronze during three consecutive Olympics conducted from 1998 to 1994. Blair is one of the 3 women to have won the same event in the Olympics for three consecutive years (Sonja Henie a figure skater of Norway and Claudia Pechsten a speed skater of Germany are the other two women). Trailing behind Blair and Heiden are Cathy Turner with 4 medals in short track (2 gold and 1 silver & bronze) and Dianne Holum with 4 medals in speed skating (1 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze).
