Mandara Mountains


Mandara Mountains is a volcanic range of mountains and stretches about 120 miles in the northern side of Nigeria- Cameroon border. It starts from the south of Benue river and ends to the Cameroon north. The Mandara Mountains provided the border between the British and French Cameroons during the colonial period. The height of this mountain range is more than 3,500 feet above the sea level. The regions closer by to the Mandara Mountains are densely populated.

Kirdi are the inhabitants of Mandara Mountains and this ethnic group are mainly known as mountain people. Initially the Mandara Mountains gave a safe haven against the slave raids but the environmental disadvantages are also there like heavy rainfalls. The Northern Mandara is densely populated and agriculture is of prime importance and the farmers feed the domestic stock to fertilize the terrace fields.

The Mandara Mountains of Cameroon offers awesome landscapes truly meant for trekking. The adventurous travelers will just love this Mandara Mountains and the entire region consists of wide green valleys and hillside villages. The popular village nearby to the Mandara Mountains is Rhumsiki and it has a panoramic view of mountain sceneries and terraced hillsides.
