Dja Faunal Reserve is the best protected rainforest's in Africa and is one of the renowned national parks of Cameroon. The reserve is located in the south- central part of the country and the terrain comprises of evergreen and semi-evergreen forests. The Average annual rainfall of the region is 1,600 mm respectively. The popularity of Dja Faunal Reserve is due to the spectacular diversity as well as the presence of wide varieties of primates. Presently the Reserve houses about 107 mammal species among which five are threatened.
Various species of animals form the decent part of this reserve. The Dja Faunal Reserve of Cameroon has numerous species of birds and that includes about 310 species. Other than these the reserve houses largest breeding colonies of “Picathartes Oreas” in the entire country. The Dja Faunal Reserve was considered as a Wildlife Reserve in 1973 and Biosphere Reserve in 1981 respectively.
Conservation of Great Apes in this reserve is of prime concern and a great deal of ape activity is in full swing. Dja Faunal Reserve can be called as a wildlife heritage of Cameroon and is an important attraction of the place.
