The Dja Biosphere Reserve (DBR) is one of the significant biosphere reserves of Cameroon and is stretched in an area of 5,260 square kilometer. The reserves houses the majority of populations of chimpanzees, elephants, gorillas and buffaloes. The DBR was included in the World Heritage site in 1987 and is a reputed globally.
The Benoue Biosphere reserve lies in the Benoue river plain and it represents the highest elevation in the area. Benoue ecosystem comprises of dry open forest as well as tropical woodland savanna. The Waza Bio reserve is situated in the extreme north of Cameroon and consists of shrub savanna. The area of the reserve doesn't have any permanent rivers.
