May Department Stores was a department store chain founded in 1877. Established by David May in Leadville in Colorado, the headquarters of the
May Department Stores is St. Louis in Missouri.
May Department Stores merged with Federated Department Stores in 2005. Clothing, footwear, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, and house wares were the main products of the company.
May Department Stores had earlier established its offices nation wide under the brand names- Lord & Taylor, Marshall Field's, Filene's, Kaufmann's, Hecht's, Strawbridge's, Foley's, Robinsons-May, Meier & Frank, L.S. Ayres, Famous-Barr and The Jones Store.
May Department Stores also operated a unit of bridal and formal apparel stores besides its department stores.
