Kmart Holding was created in 2003 as a parent company of discount retailer Kmart Corporation. The first Kmart discount department store was opened in 1962 in Garden City, Michigan.
With the launch of 271 Kmart stores in a year,
Kmart Holding became worldly known for its quality goods at low prices.
Kmart Holding opened the first Kmart Supercenter in Medina, Ohio in 1991, providing full-service grocery along with general merchandise round the clock in all the seven days a week. Kmart launched a new website named BlueLight.com in 1999, through which it offers free Internet service.
Kmart Holding, which employs over 133,000 associates merged with Sears in 2005 and formed Sears Holdings Corporation.
Kmart Holding, which also exists in Australia and New Zealand, sells clothing, footwear, bedding, furniture, jewelry, beauty products, electronics and house wares.
