Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group (MTFG) and UFJ Holdings merged in October 2005 to form Mitsubishi
UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (MUFG). Now, MUFG has become the world's largest bank with $1.68 trillion in assets under management. MUFG manages the affairs of its subsidiaries within the group and the business of the group along with all relevant ancillary business. A basic agreement was reached on the integration of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Mitsubishi Trust Bank and Nippon Trust Bank on the joint establishment of Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group ('MTFG') through a share transfer. The combined assets of the banks reached 190 trillion, which is slightly above Citigroup.
