Burundi Flag

On June 28, 1967 the Burundi Flag was officially adopted by the country. White, red and green are the colors on the flag. The white diagonal bands divide the flag in four sections. Red color is used in the upper and the lower section and two sections on both the sides are of green color. There are three stars on a white disc in the middle of the flag.

The red in the Burundi Flag represent the struggle for independence, the green stands for hope and white reflects peace. The three stars stands for the three ethnic groups of the country; the Twa, the Hutu and the Tutsi. It is also said that the stars represent the three words that are used in national motto: “Unity, Work, Progress.”

Flag in Burundi is mainly used as a state flag and also as a military flag. The flag is hoisted on Independence Day and other important days. Government and private institutions of Burundi can use this flag. The president can use the flag on buildings. It is a constitutional duty of the people to respect the flag of Burundi.
