Burkina Faso is one of the West African countries. The present President of Burkina Faso is Blaise Compaore. The President of Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaore is also the founder of a Burkina Faso political party Congress for Democracy and Progress.
Blaise Compaore was appointed as the Burkina Faso president first in the year of 1987 on 15th October. During the year of 1966 the President of Burkina Faso was Maurice Tameogo, who was deposed on 3rd January in the year 1966 by a military overthrow. The military to overthrow the incumbent Burkina Faso President was led by Col. Sangoule Lamizana. For a period of time after the military overthrow, the constitution of the country was suspended.
In the year of 1998, the seat of the President of Burkina Faso was won democratically by Blaise Compaore. The Burkina Faso President is also the Chief of the state. The President of Burkina Faso holds the power to select the prime minister of the country with the consent of the parliament.
The Burkina Faso President presides over the prime minister as well as over the Council of Ministers. In the year of 2005, Compaore was reelected to serve the term of five years.
