Burkina Faso Flag

The country of Burkina Faso is a west African country. The Burkina Faso flag was adopted in the year 1984 on 4th August. The Burkina Faso Flag has two colors, viz green and red forming two equal horizontal bands with a star in the middle. The red strip positioned at the top of the flag, stands for the revolution in the country. The Green color symbolizes the natural resources, agricultural riches of the country.

There is a five pointed star in the middle of the national flag of Burkina Faso. The yellow colored star, which is placed over the green and the red stripes represent the guiding light of freedom or revolution. The color of yellow also signifies the mineral wealth of the country.

The colors of the Burkina Faso country flag are the accepted Pan-African colors. The ratio of the length and breadth of the flag of Burkina Faso is 2:3.

In the days before the independence of Burkina Faso, the flag of Upper Volta was adopted by the country on 9th December in the year of 1959. That flag had white, black and red stripes, which stood for the White Volta, Black Volta and rivers of Red Volta.
