Bulgaria religion has undergone a number of transformations in the course of its long history. Though Bulgaria has absorbed a number of religions from various parts of the world, over the centuries of its existence, it has been an Orthodox country since 865 AD. Christianity is the dominant religion of Bulgaria and has been so since its advent into the country in 865 AD.
Majority of the population in Bulgaria are Christians. Bulgaria religion has witnessed the emergence and disappearance of several faiths like Adamite, Bogomil and Pavlikyan which were shunned as heresy by the Christian leaders. Hermeticism, Hesychasm and Asceticism were some of the other religions in Bulgaria that could survive only for a short period of time.
A significant Bulgarian religion is Atheism. Few of the eastern religions have also found a place in the religion of Bulgaria. These include Hinduism, Zoroastrianism and Buddhism. The occult also feature in the religion of the country.
