Bulgaria Police is organized as the National Police Service working under the Ministry of Interior. The chief function of the National Police Service of Bulgaria is to protect and safeguard the people of the country. The police force of Bulgaria is responsible for maintaining public order, detecting as well as preventing crime, protecting the borders of the state and putting a restraint to any sort of terrorist activity.
The National Police Service of Bulgaria is divided into two parts- the General Directorate of police and the Regional Directorates. The General Directorate of Police of Bulgaria comprise various parts- the Chief Directorates combating organized crime, border police, providing public protection, crime prevention, gendarme as well as the Aviation Task Force and Anti-terrorism Task Force. An important part of the General Directorate is the International Operational Police Co-operation Directorate.
