Bulgaria Health

From traditional medicines and healers to modern hospitals and qualified doctors, Bulgaria health has come a long way. Till the 1920s, people in Bulgaria used medicinal herbs and magic as methods of treatment. Herbal healing gradually gave way to a modern health care system.

Bulgaria health witnessed a progress in 1944 with the country being able to increase life expectancy and decrease infant mortality rates. In 1939 the mortality rate of Bulgarian children was 138.9 per 1000. In 1986 it was 18.2 per 1000. Thus, statistics shows that the country underwent major improvement in terms of health.

Health in Bulgaria became a major concern in 1980s when the country experienced a constant demographic declination. Mortality rates were rising. But the situation came under control again in the 1990s when mortality rates fell to 8.9 per 1000. Therefore, there has been a significant development in the Bulgarian health care system.

The health care system in Bulgaria developed rapidly during the 1980s and 1990s. HIV-AIDS, cancer, high blood pressure, respiratory illnesses etc are the various diseases that affect the Bulgarian population. Bulgaria health, today, holds a key place in the social development of the country.
