Muara


Muara is the smallest among the districts of Brunei. The land area of the Brunei-Muara District is only about 570 sq. km. However the Muara District of Brunei is one of the most populous regions of the country. The bustling capital of Brunei, Bandar Seri Begawan, is located in Muara as well. The plethora of tourist attractions contribute to the charm of Muara, one of the Brunei destinations.

The numerous tourist attractions of Muara offer a glimpse of the rich and varied history and culture of the country. The Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque, built with exquisite materials,is the predominating structure amongst the buildings. Brunei History Center is dedicated to the collection and documentation of the amazing history of the country.

The Royal Regalia Museum in Muara showcases the jewels, crowns, gold and silver articles belonging to the royal family of Brunei. Other impressive structures include the Istana Nurul Iman, the Royal Palace, the Dewan Majlis, the Parliament House and the Lapau, the Royal Ceremonial Hall. The Taman Persiaran Damuan and the Tasek Recreational Park offer a view of the nature of Muara.

Kampong Ayer or the water village is one of the most charming tourist attractions of Muara. The whole village is constituted by houses on stilts over the waters of the Brunei River. The walkways running through Kampong Ayer connect the village to mainland of Muara.
