The National Symbols of Brunei comprises of the Brunei National Flag, the national anthem and the crest or emblem. The national flag of Brunei is of a rectangular shape and consists of a couple of parallelograms and trapeziums. The parallelograms cut across the flag and create the trapeziums. The center of the flag is occupied by a red crest. The national flag of Brunei emblazoned with four different colors has the motto of the state inscribed on it. The motto is deciphered as Always Render Service by God's Guidance. The National Crest of Brunei Darussalam is considered to be another national symbol of the state. The crest emerged from a Royal emblem and was superimposed on the flag following a proclamation in the 1959 Brunei Constitution. There are various symbols on the crest and each has a different connotation. The symbols include the wing, the royal umbrella, the crescent, the hand, the wing of four feathers and the flag. The inscription on the crescent is the National slogan. There is a scroll just below the inscription which says ' Brunei Darussalam' and declares Brunei to be ' the abode of peace'.
